Last Wednesday students from the REC Student Council and Voice teams went to the Adelaide Oval for a Department for Education (DfE) Student Forum on Respectful Relationships. We were joined on the day by DfE Chief Executive Professor Martin Westwell.
We learnt about respectful relationships and working in a team, along with 100s of students from other South Australian schools. The day was mostly focused on Co-Designing, which is working with new and different people you may have never worked with.
On our table, we were joined by 3 students from Playford International College and their wellbeing leader. We worked really well together and supported each other with ideas or questions. This is especially important in Co-Design and having a respectful relationship with your colleagues.
Each table had to choose a topic to write about and how we could help each other. Our team chose how to handle gossip. This is when other people talk badly about another person or group behind their back. The table gave each other ideas, which are going to be taken to the DfE, and they might implement them into schools or even recommend them to schools around the state and help them in their wellbeing settings.
Jaida D and Bee P (Year 12) were welcomed to the stage to perform a roleplay related to their selected choice. Jaida was also interviewed by the Advertiser and was on the news the next morning.
Students from all schools were encouraged to talk to everyone and supply ideas to the whole room. This day was extremely fun and everyone worked well together.
